By expanding on the ancient wisdom of Yoga and combining our surrounding wave soft heat, this practice will leave you feeling healthier, stronger, rejuvenated, energized and calm.  The therapeutic soft heal environment promotes fast detoxification, reduces body's acidity as well as the negative impact of stress.  A true sense of well-being and wellness permeates the mind/body experience.  Stress and anxiety will flow away in the warmth and comfort of our radiant studio.  Heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate increase and blood vessels dilate to move warmed blood from the interior of the body towards the skin.  Heat is transferred from the blood to sweat and is ultimately released through evaporation of the skin.

The Yoga regimen in conjunction with Soft Heat has Major Health Benefits...

Detoxification:  By gently massaging various organs through specific yoga poses, toxins from the lymph areas and from the largest organ of elimination, the skin, is the source of many health improvements.  Toxemia has been targeted as the number one reason so many of us are ill.  With the elimination of these poisons from deep within the body, the organs can then do their job unhindered.

Burn Calories and Lose Weight:  Hot Yoga and Soft Heat have an outstanding effect on caloric burning and weight control.  Burning 600 to over 1,200 calories in a 60-90 minute yoga session is quite common.  This regimen is similar to a 5 to 9 mile run.  This would be invaluable for those who don't exercise and those who can't exercise yet want effective weight control and fitness maintenance.

Stress Reduction:  Yoga practice releases stress and tension that we accumulate over time in our everyday  lives.  When the body releases stress, a biochemical response takes place that changes your internal state to one of balanced and calm vitality.

Body Awareness:  Regular yoga practice shows that its physical benefits produce a body that is open, responsive and has freedom of movement.  Studies show that the psychological benefits of yoga include a developed sense of self-awareness, self acceptance, and a sense of well being.

Mental Calmness:  Yoga postures integrate both sides of the brain, which helps improve memory function, body coordination, and balance.  Postures also help to build mental strength by cultivating the ability to hold their mind in a focused and meditative state.  Learning to master one's thoughts and focus ultimately helps to move us toward a sense of well-being and aliveness.

Increased Flexibility, Lubrication of Joints:  The science and sequence behind each yoga pose is prescribed to exercise the different tendons and ligaments for the body that often lead to arthritis, carpel tunnel syndrome, spine challenges, hip ailments, and common joint injuries that typically come with aging.

Muscle Tone & Strength:  Yoga helps to tone muscles, while creating long lean muscle mass.  Muscles will begin to shed excess flab, while tightening muscles eliminating droopiness.  The more muscle mass, the greater caloric burn while living normal, everyday life.

Immune System Strengthened:  The symbiotic relationship of Hot Yoga and Soft Heat is an important energy force that promotes healing - by raising the white blood cell count.  The rise of body temperature which occurs simulates a natural fever and stimulates our immune system.  This can be very helpful in shortening recovery from colds and flues.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear or bring to class?  Wear comfortable stretchy clothing.  Bring a yoga mat, large towel to place over the mat, and 24 to 32 ounces of water.  High quality mats may be purchased at the club.

What should I expect my first class?  Many find the first few classes to be the most challenging.  Often this is because it's new and unfamiliar.  You will find that you will learn the postures quickly and become familiar with what to expect.  Come with no expectations, just an open mind and well hydrated body.  Most students feel amazingly detoxified and relaxed after their first class.

Should I eat or drink prior to class?  Try to eat 1 1/2 to 2 hours prior to class time.  Water consumption is paramount to a student's health and comfort before, during, and after class.  We strongly suggest you consume at least 16 ounces of water or non-caffeinated liquid 2 hours prior to class.

Is it normal to feel dizzy or nauseous in class?  Especially for beginners, this is normal.  As you become more acclimated to the class, this feeling will happen less.  The most important thing is to breathe through your nose, and rest when you feel the need.  Listen to your body throughout the class and pace yourself.

Why is the room heated and what is the temperature?  The heat, which is set at 103-105 degrees at 30 to 60% humidity, makes the muscles pliable which allows them to release deeper into a pose, generating a gentler, safer stretch.  It also detoxifies the body encouraging muscles to release metabolic waste, which leaves the body through the sweating process.  The heat thins the blood, increasing the heart rate for an excellent cardiovascular workout.  It also builds strength by putting muscle tissue in an optimal state for reorganization.

How long will it take to see results?  It doesn't take long to see the results of yoga.  Bodies transform depending on the frequency of the class participation.  We have seen results in as little as two weeks with a commitment of 3 to 4 sessions per week practice.  Keep in mind every body is unique, as are the results.

Can I practice if I have a health condition?  Many health conditions have been improved through regular yoga practice.  It is not uncommon for many ailments to be cured altogether.  In fact, some doctors now prescribe yoga as a form of physical therapy.  Remember, yoga heals and strengthens the body and its systems, and is especially beneficial to the immune system.

What if I'm not flexible, can I still do yoga?  Most people become inflexible over time.  Muscles and joints stiffen from under use, which often occurs as we age.  Many jobs require long hours of sitting, standing or lifting which can compress the spine and cause muscles to conform to this incorrect alignment.  Yoga helps to alleviate stiffness and creates flexibility, keeping the spine supple and in correct alignment.  If you are not flexible, that's more reason to begin yoga practice.

How old do I have to be to take hot yoga?  At Prime Fitness, you must be at least 18 years old to attend hot yoga.
